A Blackpool building services engineering company has been called in to add its magic to a high profile housing project in Manchester.

The latest £3.75m contract gain for Whitehills-based firm Ameon brings the total value of the company’s contracts for developer, Manchester Life Development Company to £21.6m.

The new award is the sixth mechanical and electrical contract of seven put out by urban developer, MLDC, for its residential apartment developments, which form the backbone of the regeneration of the Ashton Canal basin, flanked by the up-and-coming Ancoats and New Islington districts, close to Manchester city centre.

Ameon will work for main contractor, Eric Wright, on the new Vesta development in New Islington.

The contract will involve provision of all building services for 171 homes, consisting of private apartments in a nine story block, together with a small number of adjacent town houses.

The contract follows on from those gained on nearby MLDC developments, including Cotton Field Wharf, One Cutting Room Square, Saw Mill Court, Smith’s Yard and Weavers’ Quay, all of which form part of the Ancoats and New Islington Neighbourhood Development Framework; supporting Manchester’s residential growth strategy.

Ameon managing director, Robin Lawson said: “It’s good that we can play our role in Manchester’s regeneration and it’s particularly rewarding when invited to work on developments that are an integral part of the city’s overall residential strategy. “The city is almost our second home and has been a crucial part of our business growth in recent years.

“In fact, by 2016 we had already provided services to over 2,000 new homes in the city. I hope that with our continued commitment to service delivery and quality we’ll be afforded the opportunities to add to that figure substantially in the years ahead.”

Ameon, founded in 1996, has also been working on utilities infrastructure at the new police station project for Blackpool police.
