Ameon has become the first building services engineering company with design and installation capabilities in the construction sector to achieve Building Safety Act (BSA) accreditation, following a rigorous assessment process and verification through Constructionline.
Certified for High Risk Buildings and Standard Construction, Ameon’s certification process reviewed every aspect of the company’s operations; from systems, procedures, technical capabilities and personnel, through to responsibilities under the BSA for supply chain, materials sourcing, consulting and sub-contracting – all of which are covered by its obligations within the Act – which effectively legislates for greater traceability for all construction companies operating through RIBA Stages 1-7 of the construction process.
Established as the new benchmark for building regulations and fire safety for high risk buildings in the wake of the Hackitt Report – which followed the Grenfell Tower tragedy – the BSA stiffens all regulations relating to construction.
Commenting on the accreditation, construction director, Dave Scott said: “By complying with the Act, all companies in the construction process are helping to deliver safer buildings for their occupants, whilst raising standards throughout the sector.
“Everyone involved in the construction process: from developers and architects, to manufacturers, contractors and facilities management companies, have a duty to work within the BSA. Now, everybody involved in a high risk building has a shared responsibility and are more accountable than ever, which can only be a good development, as we all want to help deliver the safest built environments possible.
“Nobody wants to see another tragedy like Grenfell, and we’re happy to be in the vanguard of change to ensure that never happens again.”
Following the BSA certification, Ameon was asked to help raise the issue of fire safety generally, following which over 120 of its employees have undergone fire safety awareness and training courses, with more people in the pipeline.
