Amy Fong is one of an increasing number of women looking to carve out a career in the construction sector, so it was great to be able to offer her an opportunity to get some hands on experience on one of our projects in Manchester.
The 19-year-old student, who is currently studying for electrical qualifications at The Manchester College, is benefiting from a training initiative arranged by the not-for-profit housing sector procurement organisation, Procure-Plus.
Procure-Plus is helping to encourage more female representation in skills based jobs within the industry, and when we heard of Amy’s need for a week’s experience on site, through our client, Wates Construction NW, we were only too happy to connect with the would be electrician.
On site, Amy was tasked with assisting the team on first fix electrical containment, which included installation of trunking and conduit. And feedback from Ameon’s project manager, Martin Garnett, was all positive. He commented: “Amy demonstrated a great work ethic and excellent all round attitude, and nothing seemed to faze her, so I’m sure she has a bright future in the industry, once she has gained her qualifications.”
