‘Getting the bird’ may well be a derogatory phrase in some quarters, but our plucky trio, pictured, are proving that during the festive season, there’ll be no chorus of disapproval for planning to give over 350 homeless and disadvantaged people a full turkey dinner on Christmas Day.
That’s why Ameon has been keen to join forces with Graham Construction in Leeds to support the St George’s Crypt charity by providing turkeys to help feed around 350 homeless and vulnerable people in the city on Christmas Day.
We answered the call when we heard that a power failure at the charity, had caused freezers to thaw, rendering its stock of turkeys for the big day unusable, and along with our client on the Dyecoats project in Leeds, construction company, Graham, we stepped in to replace the birds, so that St George’s Crypt will still be able to offer its Christmas lifeline and bring a little festive cheer to people who need it most at this time of year.
St George’s Crypt has been supporting the homeless and vulnerable for 95 years; using its Pathway programme to break the cycle of homelessness and dependency. And through its centres, it offers food, shelter and pastoral support to a growing number of individuals seeking a chance to get back on their feet.
Ameon construction director, Dave Scott says: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to support Graham by donating turkeys to ensure that Christmas Day will still be a happy one for people in Leeds.
“This time of year, in particular, draws focus on the plight of some people, who, often through no fault of their own, find themselves on the margins of society and thankful for the compassion and dedication of organisations like St George’s Crypt, who provide meaningful support throughout the year to people in dire circumstances.”
