A new build purpose built educational facility, providing a hub for SME’s to design, test and validate innovation in the robotics industry. The M&E services installation at the NERIC Building, part of the University of Salford campus in Salford, supported a specialist academic facility designed to accommodate teaching, research, and technical learning environments. The project comprised the installation and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems, including ventilation, heating, power distribution, specialist lighting, fire alarm, and life safety systems, delivering a safe, energy-efficient, and high-performance environment suited to modern educational and research requirements.

Project Delivery Highlights:
- Delivered the complete Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Security services installation, providing specialist engineering services to support advanced robotics research, teaching laboratories and workshop facilities.
- Installed specialist laboratory building services including an compressed air system serving three robotics laboratories and a workshop. The installation incorporated an oil-injected screw compressor with integrated air dryer, filtration, oil/water separation and aluminium Transair distribution pipework providing ISO classified compressed air throughout the facility.
- Delivered energy-efficient HVAC systems comprising central ventilation, air conditioning, electric heating and Building Management System controls, maintaining environmental conditions suitable for teaching, research equipment and occupied laboratory spaces.
- Installed a comprehensive electrical infrastructure including low voltage distribution, structured cabling, LED lighting, emergency lighting, small power systems and a roof-mounted grid-connected photovoltaic installation to support the University’s sustainability objectives.
- Delivered fully integrated life safety systems including addressable fire detection and alarm, disabled refuge communication, disabled WC alarm systems, induction loop systems and lightning protection, ensuring compliance with current statutory and University standards.
- Installed a campus-integrated security package comprising intruder detection, access control, TCP/IP audio intercoms and CCTV surveillance systems, all networked into the University’s existing central security management platform and monitored from the Maxwell Building Control Room.
- Delivered intelligent access control with proximity card readers, electronic door locking, remote administration and visitor intercom systems providing secure access to laboratories, workshops and staff accommodation whilst allowing seamless integration with existing campus-wide security infrastructure.
- Installed domestic water services, sanitaryware, rainwater drainage and above-ground foul drainage systems throughout the building, providing resilient and maintainable public health services for laboratories, welfare facilities and teaching accommodation.
- Integrated the principal mechanical and electrical systems into the Building Management System to enable central monitoring, fault reporting, plant optimisation and energy management across the facility.
