There can’t be many Liverpool FC football supporters that have cast aside local rivalry to go the extra mile for Everton FC’s, Everton in the Community (EITC) charity, yet Ameon’s Dave Wilson, has done just that, and been crowned Overbury’s 1878 Challenge Champion – raising vital funds to support EITC’s work in the process.

Dave, the mechanical project manager responsible for work on the hospitality facilities in Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium in Liverpool, was a key member of one of the ten teams participating in client, Overbury’s 1878 Challenge: created as a platform for fundraising on behalf of EITC, which delivers  over 60 life-changing programmes and initiatives across the region – tackling the deepest-rooted social issues impacting Merseyside and beyond.

The 1878 Challenge was named in honour of Everton FC’s foundation year, and each team sponsored in the challenge carried the name of one of the hospitality outlets in the new stadium.  Dave’s team, the ‘Queen’s Head Heroes,’ also included team members Andrew Ridgeway, Loryn Barnes and Shanon Ofee.  The rules were simple…complete 1878 km by running, cycling or swimming to be crowned champions.

In the end, Dave did go the extra mile (kilometre), putting in over 2,000km on a cycle, while team-mates weighed in with hefty distances in running or swimming categories to help the ‘Queen’s Head Heroes’ claim the team prize, alongside Dave’s individual trophy!

Said Dave: “Everton in the Community does great work across Merseyside to make people’s lives better, so I was delighted to represent Ameon in the Overbury challenge to raise money for such a worthy cause.  However, as a proud ‘Kopite’ I can’t promise to be as charitable towards Everton when the next Merseyside derby comes around!”

All teams put in a fantastic effort on behalf of the charity through the Overbury challenge and Everton FC will be hoping to mirror that success on the pitch in their new home, when the Premier League season kicks off again in August.
