Doing the weekly shop for oneself is tough enough, so imagine what it must have been like to help do it for the hundreds of families having to rely on the Salford Foodbank to keep food on their table.

A group of Ameon volunteers, working alongside those from client, Morgan Sindall, took some time off site from the prestigious Plot C2 in Salford, to put some hours in at the city’s main foodbank, to help staff at the centre cope with deliveries, sorting and packing; on  what turned out to be just another busy day for one of the most important community projects serving the local area.

Safe to say, that in the 21st century, it is perhaps extraordinary that there should be a need for foodbanks, yet thousands of hard-pressed low-income families across the country are having to rely on the service, in the midst of the UK’s cost of living crisis.

The sheer size of the operation, and the volume of goods going through the centre surprised members of our volunteer group, who praised the foodbank’s own staff for providing such a lifeline to Salford residents week in, week out.
